SMART: A THRIVE Lab research study

The SMART study is testing an app-based intervention (REPS) that has the potential to reduce symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Who is eligible?

  • Prospective participants must be between the ages of 18 and 65.
  • Must be currently experiencing symptoms of trauma-related distress.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.
  • Must have an Android or iPhone smart device running sufficient software (i.e. at least iOS 11.0).
  • Must be able and willing to perform daily smartphone training for a period of two weeks.
  • Meet other eligibility criteria.

What will I be doing?

  • In the SMART study, we are testing the effectiveness of an app-based intervention for reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress. This app is called REPS.
  • If you decide to participate in the study, and are eligible to do so, you will have the opportunity to complete a number of trainings on the REPS app.
  • Throughout the study, you will be screened several times to assess what post-traumatic stress symptoms you may be experiencing. These screenings will be delivered through questionnaires in the REPS app.

 Why should I participate?

  • The chance to contribute to scientific knowledge that may eventually lead to a treatment for post-traumatic stress.
  • Monetary compensation (see below).

Will I be paid?

  • Participants who complete the entire study will be paid with $35 in Amazon eCodes.
  • Participants who decide to withdraw from the study at any point will be paid according to what tasks they have completed thus far.

I'm interested! How do I begin?

  • Please complete our screening survey to get started!
  • If you have any other questions about the study, feel free to contact the study coordinator, Zoe Zong, via email ([email protected]).
